In this interview from 12 October 2025 for Czech Radio’s: Radio Wave: Hergot! Podcast series, I discuss the idea of occult nationalism — the intertwining of esoteric and national imaginaries between 1850 and 1945. I talk about how occult thought shaped concepts of race, nation, and spiritual evolution, and how these ideas ranged from mystical forms of evolutionary racism to utopian visions of a new humanity.
One of the examples I highlight is the Czech writer and occultist Josef Maria Emmanuel Lešetický of Lešehrad, who claimed that a six-armed angel instructed him to found the Silver Circle — a society that combined esoteric and cultural work for the Czech nation. The conversation also touches on the broader European context of occult nationalism and how some of its motifs continue to resonate today.
